Carlisle Station Hotel, Sure Hotel Collection by BW

My mum was up for a quick visit and needed somewhere convenient to the train station so she wouldn't have to lug her wheelie bag too far. This hotel was recommended by a friend who knows Carlisle well. My mum loved how comfy her single bed was, how unexpectedly quiet her room was (the window faces the railway carpark where the transport police office is based), and the fact the bathroom had an actual bath & shower. It was compact but had everything a traveller needs, and felt relaxing for her with sufficient customer service but no intrusiveness (which she has previously endured when staying at B&Bs of similar price). She took the option of no daily housekeeping in her room so that she could have a coupla free drinks at the bar, which was modern & clean & low-key. She enjoyed being an independent traveller while knowing that staff were responsive & easy to contact either by room service phone or at reception.

The location is excellent if travelling by train. There is easy access to the heart of the city centre and anyone who fancies visiting the bars and clubs on Botchergate. Staff (especially those on reception) are extremely helpful and go the extra mile to assist. The room is value for money and reflects the classification of the hotel. Beds are comfortable. Complementary drink tokens to be used at the bar in the hotel were a bonus, whilst the breakfast was value for money with children eating for free.

Ideal location for everything t, the staff were superb and welcoming could not do anymore to make it a pleasant stay. The room itself was nice clean but very very warm . Tea/coffee provided for free as was a courteous drink upon arrival , the bathroom area although quite small served its purpose although shower could have been warmer . The breakfast was superb with something for everyone one’s taste and credit to the staff here also as they were more than helpful showing everyone where everything was I cannot remember the young gents name but he glided about the breakfast keeping everything immaculate and tidy without being intrusive and also serving various dishes like poached eggs and porridge which are done to order well done young man . The bar area offer a good ambience although no draft beers were available during my staff they had a good selection of bottled beers and spirit is as well as on hand to serve tea and coffees also . Overall it was a decent hotel but with a few faults would probably stay again

Comfy double room with big double bed and en-sute bathroom. Free tea/coffee in room along with milk and sugar sashays. Binin room. Carpet on floor, wardrobe in room.Large bath towels in wardrobe hand towels in cluded. Small table on each side of bed one large lamp on each side of bed. Good speed, free WiFi. Delicious English/Irish cooked breakfast, also sireals available. Fruit juice, toast, tea/coffee included in breakfast. Right next to Carlisle train station, 5 minute walk to Carlisle Castle and a 10 minute to the city's bus station. Hotel has bar. Friendly staff. Check-in was quick and simple. Phone in room to call reception. TV on wall. Some plug sockets in room. Small fan in room.

I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. I think it is fair to say Best Western has not got the best reputation for some of its hotels. I chose this one because of its close proximity to train station (it couldn’t be any closer!) A few steps after exiting the station and we were inside the hotel - especially welcoming as upon our arrival the heavens opened and within seconds we were in the dry. First impressions were excellent - clean, bright reception area and served by a friendly, competent receptionist.The day only got better. We had booked 2 suites which were spacious and clean. Yes, I know the bathrooms are outdated but they add to the charm. I think I am right in saying this hotel was built for Queen Victoria - have a look at the ornate ceilings as you have breakfast (which was plentiful). I am sure QV would have felt quite at home in this rather special place. If you like modern this may not suit but if you appreciate ‘old fashioned’ and don’t want to walk far if arriving by train this ticks all the boxes.
